We have decided to go for a dedication instead of a christening for our as-yet-unborn baby, and so with incredible organisation skills – absent in our lives up until this point, the service has been planned, booked, and even the liturgy has been written. The invitations have been created, debated, sent back and forth and finally settled on, and all is organised for the 1st Febuary. This seems a little ridiculous with the baby not due till December – but with December comes Christmas, and then holidays, and then we are into the start of January – and suddenly there is only four weeks before the service. So it was today, that the long suffering wife and I bashed out the last bit of text and felt that at last we had completed the necessary arrangements.
And that’s it. You see, at this point, I feel I owe you a witty explanation, a description of how this reveals something profound and meaningful in my life, or how this may indicate something about a change in the way in which my life is organised – but I don’t think it does – it's just what has happened today in amongst the work, and study, and life.
Today – everything is normal

OK ok.. i like the idea of a Dedication..but i have a question *raises hand* You wish to become a priest ...So why no Christening? Not nitpicking..just curious, honestly!

How can I be training to be a priest and not want to christen my baby? Yes that’s a fair question. I suppose my easiest answer would be – Jesus was not baptised till he was 30 – and didn’t need to be as he had not sinned. I don’t think that a child is born with sin, so I don’t see a need to baptism them into God’s family – I think they are already a part of it. For some adults, being baptised is really important and in a lot of denominations it's not possible to be baptised as an Adult if you have been baptised as a child, so I prefer to leave the choice open to my child when they are old enough to “believe and be baptised”. As to the question of whether I would baptise someone else's child – yes, if they wanted to do so as an expression of their love for God and hopes and dreams for their child then I don’t have a problem with it, just for preference I won't christen my own!
